October Wellness – Work-Life Harmony

October 1, 2026

As we move into October, it's a timely opportunity to ponder work-life harmony and the role it plays in our overall wellbeing. With Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 5-11) and World Mental Health Day (October 10) approaching, it's a reminder that supporting our mental health is not just something we do during challenging times. It is something we can nurture every day through healthy habits, boundaries, and self-compassion.

Work-Life Harmony

For many years, the goal was "work-life balance," often pictured as perfectly dividing our time and energy between work and personal responsibilities. Life is rarely that evenly balanced. Work-life harmony recognizes that work, family, health, hobbies, community involvement, and rest all play important roles in our lives. Rather than striving for perfection, harmony is about creating sustainable routines that are best for you to help these areas work together.

Some days' work may require more attention. On other days, personal commitments may take priority. Harmony means having the flexibility and awareness to adjust while protecting your overall health and resilience.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference

  • Set clear boundaries between work and personal time whenever possible.

  • Take regular breaks throughout the workday.

  • Use your vacation and personal days to rest and recover.

  • Create transition rituals between work and home.

  • Prioritize activities that bring you joy, connection, and a sense of purpose.

  • Be realistic and compassionate with yourself when life feels especially busy or demanding.

Supporting Mental Wellness

Mental health exists on a continuum, and everyone experiences challenges differently. Taking care of your mental wellbeing is just as important as caring for your physical health.

Remember, sometimes the smallest adjustments can have the greatest impact on our wellbeing.
